Alfa Romeo boasts year-on-year sales increase
08 May 2009
Alfa Romeo is enjoying an increase in sales so far this year.
Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo has managed to increase sales of new cars despite the motoring industry being in a slump. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said that Alfa Romeo was one of only two companies to have achieved an increase of year-to-date sales in comparison to the previous 12 months.
That is despite new car sales in the UK being down a total of 28.5 per cent.
Alfa Romeo was also given a boost by the fact new SMMT registration statistics for April gave it an industry-leading 76.8 per cent increase, 55 per cent higher than any competitor in the same month.
According to the company, one of the reasons behind the success this year is the Alfa MiTo which has opened up a new market of potential buyers.
It was said that: "The technologically advanced and fun-to-drive addition to the range has been an instant hit with young and image conscious motorists."
Meanwhile, motor magazine Glass's Guide claims demand for second hand vehicles will remain strong in the year ahead.
