In celebration of its centenary, Alfa Romeo will be the featured carmaker at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed (FoS) to be held on 1-4 July.

Aside from showcasing a multi-million pound collection of rare road and race cars throughout the Italian marque's rich 100-year history, the event will also see the global launch of its latest model - the five-door Alfa Giulietta hatchback - which is due to hit UK showrooms on 24 July. This C-segment, family-sized car replaces the ten-year old 147 range and wears a price tag starting from £16,995 for the entry-level Turismo to £24,495 for the range-topping Cloverleaf.

"We are delighted to be playing an important role at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and we are delighted to be able to use this historic event to launch our very latest new model the Giulietta, a model name first used by Alfa Romeo in 1954", said Fiat Group Automobiles UK and Ireland Managing Director Andrew Humberstone.

"The Giulietta is a crossroads product for us to be able to move the brand forward. This range is totally new, new chassis and new engines and we are launching it on the back of the huge success we have had with the MiTo supermini", he added.

Powering the Giulietta is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel generating 170PS and 320Nm of torque. The engine delivers a combined cycle fuel consumption of 60.1mpg and cut CO2 emissions to 124g/km. Mated to a six speed manual transmission, the car can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in eight seconds and reach a maximum speed of 135mph.

Motorists can also adapt the car to their specific driving requirements through the D.N.A. selector. The Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system and the Electronic Q2 differential are also fitted as standard. Standard equipment across the range includes air conditioning, electric windows and electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors.

Safety wise, the car features acomprehensive range of safety equipment including six airbags, headlights with Daytime Running Lights, five three-point seat belts with load limiters and double pretensioners, a anti-whiplash system, Isofix attachments and a collapsible pedal unit and steering column.
