Owners of Audi cars can expect to be paying less to insure their models compared to owners of models from Germany's other premium segment brands, data from the group ratings database of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has shown.

Since the 1980s, the insurance group ratings database, overseen by the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, Berkshire on behalf of Lloyds Syndicates and the ABI, has been revised every month with the latest car insurance rating data such as body styles, engine types, and all trim levels. The information has been used to determine the average insurance group ratings of Audi cars as well as their competitors if applicable from Germany's premium segment. In nearly every range, Audi cars show significantly lower average ratings than its equivalents, which means owners will generally have to pay less in insurance premiums.

The ratings are obtained using a special system that assigns penalty points to every car based on several factors such as purchase price, cost of primary parts and the ease as well as the expense of repair after an independent crash test carried out by the Research Council for Automobile Repairs (RCAR).

The higher the purchase price or labour and part charges as well as the more labour-intensive and costly the crash repair is will result to a much higher points tally, and subsequently a much higher insurance group rating.

Moreover, security performance is another important factor to compute each rating, and a number of vehicle security awards plus a 'Best Overall Manufacturer' accolade attest to the expertise of Audi in this field. A high level of security protection is attained across the Audi fleet through features such as Thatcham Category 4 locking wheel bolts and Thatcham Category 1 immobiliser and alarm technologies, among others.
