Bentley Motors announced at the Geneva Motor Show that beginning in June 2010, all Bentley Continental models will have flex-fuel capability. All Bentley Continental coupes, convertibles and sedans will be made flex-fuel as the company implements its plans to reduce carbon dioxide emission by 15% by 2012.
In line with this move, the British automobile manufacturer unveiled its latest 2011 Continental Supersports Convertible earlier this month at the Geneva Motor Show. Bentley claims that this model is the fastest open-top automobile the company has ever manufactured, in addition to being a flex-fuel vehicle.
Henceforth, Bentleys flex-fuel version of its 6.0-liter W-12 engine will be used to power all upcoming Continental vehicles. The engine can run on both E85 bioethanol and gasoline. It can also run on any mixture of the two fuels from a single fuel tank. Additionally, this engine is exclusively offered on the range.
This plan means that over half of Bentleys cars production this year will be flex-fuel compatible, a spokesman for Bentley Motors said. Only three Bentley cars will not be flex-fuel compatible: the Azure sedan, the all-new Mulsanne sedan, and the Brooklands coupe, which will cease production this year.
It was also announced that the Mulsanne sedan will undergo modifications in order to run on ethanol in the future, though they did not offer a specific time frame for the event.
