MINI is set to introduce its newest and biggest model, the MINI Countryman, in September 2010. The MINI Countryman range would become the fourth member within the MINI family after Hatch, Clubman and Convertible. With the Countryman, MINI enthusiasts would no longer have to shift to other brands if they want a more spacious car. Buyers will have five models to choose from, with three featuring ALL4, the companys latest four-wheel drive option.
The MINI Countryman range includes two diesel and three petrol models. It will also have two ALL4 all-wheel drive models: the MINI Cooper S ALL4 and Cooper D ALL4. The petrol models feature the latest 1.6 litre power plants previously announced for the MINI Clubman, Convertible and Hatch models that are due next year. The diesel models are the same as the others in the range.
All of the petrol engines have Variable Valve Timing (VVT), resembling the BMW Valvetronic system that generates more torque low down and improves general efficiency. The Cooper S also features direct fuel injection and a twin-scroll turbocharger that provides blistering performance with low CO2 emissions and moderate fuel economy.
For the first time in the companys history, the new MINI Countryman series would include two four-wheel drive models. The MINI Cooper S and Cooper D ALL4 models will be offered starting day one. The company will release an ALL4 version of the MINI Cooper in 2012.
