Robot gives Ford the human touch
22 December 2009
Ford has released details of a robot it uses to test the cars.
A robot is helping Ford to develop automobiles that are ideal for the human touch.Ruth (Robotised Unit for Tactility and Haptics) is the tester for surfaces within the car maker's products.
Ford explained that designers have, in the past, had to use human subjects to give feedback on the interiors of automobiles, but Ruth offers a more scientific way of gauging factors such as friction, temperature and softness.
Interior technologies engineer Mark Spingler commented: "Were leading the way in measuring touch so that high quality interiors can be delivered in affordable cars, not just expensive luxury models."
Even if you drive a used Ford, there is a chance Ruth was involved in its design, as the robot has been working there for four years.
If you have a second-hand Ford Focus, you will be pleased to know that independent pricing expert CAP has recently named the model the Used Car of the Decade.
