Saab announced that they are working full speed on a new super cool, yet smaller, model that will rival Audis A1 and Mini.
Victor Muller, CEO of Spyker and the man behind the Saab deal confirmed that they are working on a C Class premium model that will go head to head with the latest Audi A1 model and Mini. Muller said the car is likely to hit the roads within the next three years.
The new model, dubbed 9-1, is part of Saabs plan for revival after it was acquired by Spyker Cars.
The mini Saab model will be assembled at the plant in Tollhattan, Sweden and will use Opel components.
The mini 9-1 is expected to roll off the forecourts by 2013 and between now and then Saab should be able to recover from last years poor sales.
Muller said Saabs line-up will focus on four models in the future: 9.1, 9-3, 9-5, and the 9-4X SUV, which will hit showrooms this year.
Spyker Cars is a small Netherlands-based sports car manufacturer with less than 100 employees. It produced 21 cars in the last quarter of 2009 at an average price of $273,000. Many analysts were sceptical about the companys ability to save Saab, but the Dutch company are confident that they can give the brand a new spirit.
