Two new chassis for Volvo S80

Two new chassis for Volvo S80

19 March 2009

The inclusion of two new chassis has improved the driving dynamics of the Volvo S80.

Fans of the Volvo S80 who are unsure if they want a more sporty or smooth ride from the vehicle will soon be able to have the choice between two new chassis.

Motorists looking for a vehicle with enhanced sporting driving characteristics may opt for the Lowered Dynamic Chassis, which will provide them with more responsive handling.

Meanwhile, a more compliant and smooth ride can be experienced by motorists deciding to go for the Comfort Chassis, thanks to the use of softer springs and more subtle damping.

Stefan Sallqvist, section manager for vehicle dynamics at Volvo Cars, said: "For some customers, the driving experience is most important, while others prioritise ride comfort.

"We analysed the different requirements and designed two alternative chassis with entirely different natures."

He added that the more sportier chassis is "far more compact and agile on the road", while the other offers the upmost in luxurious ride comfort.

Top Gear stated in a review of the Volvo S80 that the vehicle is "safe, smart and comfortable", with a "fantastic" cabin and the inclusion of fine modern materials.
