Used Saab driver sings cars praises
09 February 2010
Used Saab gives driver joy after four decades.
Used car owners are a varied breed. Some simply love their used car for its simple run-around capabilities. For others, owning a used car is a much bigger love affair. For American Doug Morse, owning a used 1967 Saab Sonett II had been a life-long dream. Then in 1996, he got a call that made that dream a reality, he tells the San Francisco Chronicle.
Doug lovingly restored his newly-acquired 1967 Sonett II and in 2004 it won best in class at the National Saab Owners meeting in America.
Doug loves his used Saab's lightweight, fibreglass body coupled with the two-cycle engine which gives it the sound and speed of a race car.
The Sonett II was first introduced in 1966. With a top speed of 150 km/h, only 28 were made in the first year. Then in 1967 a new grill and the Saab badge were added and a further 229 were made before further modifications led to its relaunch as the Sonett V4 in 1968, the Vintage Saab website notes.
