A diesel engine that adheres to European standards has been announced by Volvo.
Car brand Volvo claims that it will be the first to bring in a diesel engine to meet European emissions regulations.Volvo Trucks said in a statement that it will start field testing of the methane and diesel engine next year.
The UK and Sweden are the countries set for the testing.
Volvo's new engine is said to be acceptable under the Euro 5 exhaust emission standard that was unveiled this year.
Lars Martensson, environmental director, said that the engine can work out fuel ratio to optimise it for the driving pattern of the vehicle.
He also noted that there is more natural gas available than oil.
Volvo Trucks unveiled seven biofuel-powered trucks back in 2007.
The firm recently revealed that it is getting ready for a predicted "market upswing".
It has remodelled two factories in Sweden in accordance with its redesign plan, which is intended to make production efficient.
