Volvo gears up for engine tests
26 January 2010
Swedish drivers are preparing to run tests on new methane-diesel engines from Volvo.
Advanced engine technology could be on the way as Volvo prepares for Swedish tests of its new engines.Drivers of used Volvos may be interested to hear that the brand is developing methane-diesel engines and eight customers in Sweden are to carry out the field tests.
Seven have been chosen already and the eighth driver will soon be confirmed.
Volvo said that its new engines are designed to improve maintenance costs and fuel efficiency and enable motorists to run on diesel alone if there is no methane gas.
It also noted that demand is rising for more vehicles powered by methane gas.
Volvo recently revealed that its new car sales rose by more than four per cent in 2009.
This could have resulted in more used Volvos coming on to the market if existing owners sold them to get new ones instead.
Volvo expressed confidence that the new S60 models would drive sales in 2010.
