You will be happy with the Alfa Romeo 159 2.2 JTS if you are looking for a gas-powered driving machine with plenty of oomph. It offers a great experience behind the wheel; in short, it has the makings of a winner.
The Alfa Romeo 159 2.2 JTS has a lot of get up and go, running from 0 to 60mph in just 8.5 seconds. That might have a little something to do with the fact that it produces a powerful 185bhp. It has a lot of torque, too, at 230Nm. The torque is fantastic even at low rpm, because of ongoing automatic variability in the valve timing.
The thing that makes the Alfa Romeo 159 2.2 JTS great can be identified by its name. The JTS stands for Joint Thrust Stoichiometric, and it is an engine that employs a specific type of gasoline injection. The stoichiometric engine controls the fuel to air mixture within to provide what is presumably the optimum combustion rate for the best performance. If you gun the engine, it will respond by adjusting the fuel so that the maximum combustion rate is achieved. That means a lot of power, a sharp decline in fuel economy, and a loud-sounding motor.
Yet overall the sound of the engine is one of quiet strength. It is smooth even at those times when you put your foot in it. As long as you are driving within the normal speed range of the Alfa Romeo 159 2.2 JTS, you will hear a resonant hum; it may get louder or softer but it will never get coarse.
