When Audi first introduced the A6 Allroad in 2000 they weren't sure how well it would be accepted. With the release of the latest version, they can rest easy. The public has accepted the A6 Allroad with open arms and it has become one of the favorites of the Audi line with power and beauty the Allroad is an automobile that should be appreciated for everything it brings to the table. The key selling point for the A6 Allroad is that it offers the allure of a 4x4 with the elegance of an Audi.
The body has been improved with an understated yet classic design. Stainless steel under carriage plates are put in place to protect the underside from becoming damaged during operation. By raising the license plate frame higher up onto the grill, it is now protected from damage from rocks or other debris that the driver may encounter while driving. Audi has also dressed up the grill by installing chrome strip which offer contrast and help the well known grill stand out even more. Other standard equipment on the new A6 Allroad are stronger bumpers, larger side mirrors, and wheel arch extensions which help protect the vehicle from damage to the paint while driving on loose gravel.
The suspension system uses an adaptive air suspension that allows the Allroad to drive like a sedan in highway mode, and providing it with the height necessary when driving in rougher terrain. The aluminum suspension system combines that of the A6 and A8 while incorporating a few new touches that are all Allroad. The system allows the driver to raise or lower the height of the body either automatically or manually through the multimedia controls. The availability of five driving modes, dynamic, automatic, comfort, allroad and lift also provide the driver with the ability to change the driving mode depending on the circumstances.
The stability of the ESP control system has also been improved to meet the demands of the Allroad. By manually pushing the ESP button, the height of the Allroad can be adjusted either up or down to accommodate the driver's preferences. The ESP system also puts a priority on forward propulsion. Customers have the choice of a petrol powered version which is the 290PS 3.0 TFSI V6, or diesel fans can choose between a 190bhp 2.7 TDI or a 240PS 3.0 liter powerhouse. Both versions feature six cylinders, a choice of a six speed manual or a six speed Triptronic shifting mechanism.
The Audi Allroad has proven that it can perform in all weather conditions, and is very practical and well designed. It is not a vehicle to just be admired and never driven in rough conditions; the Allroad can tackle even the worst snowstorm and look quite good doing while doing it. Audi has done it again, they have designed a vehicle that will outperform many in the same class and continues to build the reputation of a company that continues to produce automobiles that become classics and actually perform in the way that they were designed to.
