The Bentley Continental GT marks the first car produced by Bentley since it has joined forces with Volkswagen, and what a debut model it is. Along with the design that Bentley is known for, this car is one of the most technologically advanced cars on the market today.
The Continental GT is powered by a 6.0 liter twin turbocharged W12 engine that produces 555bhp in the standard model. It also comes equipped with four wheel drive and a lever paddle operated transmission. The design of the Continental was done using the Data Control Model that was then used in the manufacturing process.
The development of the Continental GT has also brought in a new group of buyers that typically wouldn't have considered purchasing a Bentley. Because of the lower price, it has attracted the attention of man prospective buyers who thought Bentley's were out of their price range. But to bring the lower priced Continental GT to the public's attention and boast its lower price, Bentley was forced to do a bit of creative marketing in order to spread the word.
The four wheel drive provides the driver with a sense of security when the driving conditions become slippery. The ESP stability control technology also assists the driver in maintaining control of the car in unpleasant driving circumstances using its Sport Traction mode. Utilizing the six speed automatic transmission that was built specifically for Bentley by ZF, the driver is able to change gears using paddles located behind the steering wheel, or it can also be driven as just a regular automatic with no need to shift. Improvements were also made to the exhaust system which makes the Continental GT a bit more efficient to run, providing it with a 3.5 percent boost.
The interior of the Continental GT is pure Bentley. The use of leather and wood veneers are what drivers have come to expect when they peer inside. The instrument panel has been more symmetrically designed than in previous models, the center console was designed to resemble the Bentley winged logo and there was special attention paid to the space allocated for head and leg room, making it a very comfortable and roomy seating experience.
Bentley has also included a touch screen LCD display on the center console which is used to control the air conditioning, navigation system, computer information and the entertainment system. Bentley has done an excellent job in blending new technology with a classic design. There is also wood paneling throughout the interior that leaves one amazed at how the designers at Bentley manipulated the wood to curve when needed. There have also been improvements made in the way that the leather is processed to use in the car, using a digitized process to reduce waste allows for the hides to cut in a way that is more efficient and less wasteful.
The introduction of the Continental GT has helped bring Bentley into a new era, and has helped them to get the attention of a new and younger set of clientele.
