BMW has produced one of the most powerful cars in its lineup with the 6 Series Edition Sport. It comes equipped with a 5.0 liter V10 engine with 507bhp. Capable of developing 520Nm of torque and can go from 0-62mph in in astounding 4.6 seconds. Sounds quite impressive don't it.
The 6 Series Edition Sport's 3.0 liter engine features the high precision injection double-VANOS system that features 272bhp. BMW also offers a more powerful diesel powered 3.0 liter twin-turbo diesel version in the 635d. When you think of a luxury coupe diesel is typically not the first thing to come to mind. The diesel version of the engine can achieve 580Nm of torque at just 1,750rpm which makes it extremely fast. The 650i features a 4.8 liter engine with 367bhp available and can go from 0-60 in 5.1 seconds and tops out at a max speed of 155mph which BMW has electronically limited it to.
BMW has done an excellent job in combining sports car attributes with a luxury coupe. The petrol versions are equipped with a six speed manual transmission, but the 635d is loaded with a six speed auto transmission that can provide a higher level of torque. The Edition Sport features a specially contoured hood and 19? alloy wheels. The interior has also been upgraded and features brushed aluminum details. The headlights are now powered by LED lamps which form a thin row of lights above the main headlight. Enhancements have also been made to the front of the car to accommodate differently shaped air intakes. The rear bumper has been enlarged to give to illusion of greater width.
The interior features ample room to seat two comfortably and the driver can manipulate the position of the wheel and pedals for a more custom fit. The rear seats were not designed to hold anything larger than an overnight bag or small child. BMW has also included their iDrive control wheel that is used by the driver to control certain aspects of the car. They have also include eight programmable favorite buttons that are located on the center console to make accessing certain features easier.
The latest versions of the 6-Series are equipped with BMW's Efficient Dynamics technology which includes Brake Energy Regeneration that uses energy recovered under braking to recharge the car's battery. The air conditioning compressor can be decoupled from the drivetrain in order to reduce engine drag. BMW has also installed active flaps located behind the grill that close to improve the aerodynamics of the car. All of these enhancements and innovations allow the 635d to average 40mpg while producing 183g/km of CO2 emissions.
The petrol powered versions were also developed to run more efficiently than their predecessors. On average the petrol version is capable of 35.8mpg in the 630i which can also be improved if the driver chooses the automatic transmission over the manual. The 650i averages 24mpg on the combined cycle which is impressive for a car of its size. The emissions produced by the 630i and 650i average 188g/km and 279g/km respectively.
