BMW has proven that diesel powered engines can efficiently power a high end luxury car and do it well. The 740d is equipped with a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged diesel powered engine. This powerful and impressive engine is capable of producing 306bhp and 600Nm of torque at 1,500rpm. BMW has discovered and improved the twin turbocharging system to work well with the diesel powered engine. BMW has developed a system that uses a small turbo unit which gives an almost instantaneous boost to the car. This technology allows for the 740d to go from 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds and tops out at a predetermined 155mph.

There have been some enhancements made to the exterior of the 740d starting with easily recognizable grill; it now sits more upright than in previous models. The lines of the car have been modified and now produce a raised center section on the hood. The interior contains everything that fans of BMW have come to love. The more noticeable change comes in the technology that BMW has chosen to incorporate into the 740d.

BMW has released a new night vision system that is able to detect if a person or animal enters the path of the car and warn the driver of the impending danger. There is also a front side view camera system available that will better enable the driver to see at blind intersections. The Lane Departure Warning system is able to monitor road markings and will warn the driver if they veer into the other lane and the advanced Speed Limit Warning System is able to read posted road signs and warn the driver if they go over the posted speed limit.

BMW has also included the Active Steering system which makes it much easier for drivers to park and maneuver the 740d. This system allows for the rear wheels to steer by as much as 3 degrees. This system makes tight turns much easier and improves maneuverability at low speeds and improves the driving dynamics when the speed increases.

There are also options available as to which trim level you would like to add to your 740d. Prospective buyers will be able to choose between the SE or M-Sport packages. Included in the M-Sport package are 19? alloy wheels, a body styling kit and a number of interior accessories including a sports steering wheel and anthracite head liner. The M-Sport package also offers a firmer suspension than other models.

The 740d is not all about the available power produced by the engine, it is also defined by all of the technological advances BMW has made and decided to include. Among the latest additions, BMW has also included some of the proven technology of past models, such as, Hill-Start Assist, Dynamic Stability Control +, Efficient Dynamics, Soft-stop and Brake Fade Compensation systems. All in all there isn't much that the 740d is missing. BMW has designed a vehicle that is fun and full of all the gadgets and technology that anyone would enjoy operating.
