The Bugatti Veyron - An Amazing Super Sports Car

Our Rating: No Rating Available

There is nothing subtle about the Bugatti Veyron. It represents magnificent feats of engineering in nearly every detail. Buyers who have shopped the usual sports cars will be blown away by the specs, and they should be. The Bugatti Veyron would be utterly impressive in any competition, particularly among the weaker contenders that make up the current field of sports cars.

No words can describe the feeling of sitting behind the wheel of a Bugatti Veyron that is racing from 0 to 62mph in a heart pounding 2.5 seconds. The 16-cylinder, 987bhp engine is said to bring the Bugatti Veyron up to a maximum speed of 252mph, and even that seems reasonable in light of the engineering involved. Top torque for the Bugatti Veyron seems fitting for a supercar, at 1249Nm available all the way from 2200rpm to 5500rpm.

This marvelous engineering combines lightweight construction, extreme aerodynamics, extra special run flat tires and ingenious engine design. The Bugatti Veyron will respond to the driver input with three different modes. The standard mode is for normal driving, if there is such a thing in a Bugatti Veyron. The handling mode is for higher speeds, and to accomplish this mode, the body reconfigures itself on the spot by pulling down the nose and putting the rear spoiler in place.

The Bugatti Veyron starts out in what is called the top speed mode, a configuration designed to make the most of every engineering detail. To get out of the top speed mode, the driver only needs to touch the brake. However, if he keeps the pedal down, he will have such a powerful takeoff that it will seem like the Veyron could easily sprout wings.

With all that power, it is essential that the handling be impeccable. Bugatti uses every trick in the book to make sure its Veyron super sports car behaves the way it should on the straightaway as well as the curved track. Electronic Stability Control is at the heart of the Bugatti Veyron handling system. Precision 4-wheel drive, a special rear axle differential, a Haldex clutch and electronic controls all contribute to the excellent handling. Plus, the suspension is built for power and great responsiveness at high speeds. Control is enhanced by internal regulation of the brake pressure. The car can be stopped dead from a speed of 62mph in a mind-boggling 2.3 seconds.

The Bugatti Veyron moves as well in the city as on the open road. These are two totally different experiences, but they are both thrilling. In town, the Veyron moves swiftly towards its destination, gliding around any obstacles in its path. On the highway, it is a difficult task to remember that the top speed of 252mph is not legal in most places. Even if it were, it would gobble up 2.7mpg as long as the driver held it to that pace. Combined driving fuel consumption is a little better, at 11.9mpg.

The Bugatti Veyron comes with a hefty price tag, so there is no doubt that it is meant for a select few buyers. In fact, the company will only make a few hundred in the year. Yet those who can afford to buy it should not be disappointed at its incredible power and supreme engineering.
