Cruise into Versatility
This Korean-built four-door saloon is a great value with its economic performance and appealing design. Whether you're looking for a family car or a fleet vehicle, the Cruze 2.0, with diesel engine, is the versatile automobile to satisfy everyone's your needs. That's because the Cruze provides multiple options and a variety of styles. While there are two petrol engines available, the two diesels are the more popular choices, thanks to plump torque curve giving good flexibility through the middle of the rev range. Specifically, the diesel engine generates 300Nm of torque from 2,000rpm compared to 176Nm available at 3,800rpm in the 1.8-litre petrol.
Despite the sometimes bumpy ride of the Cruze when driving on rough roads, the Cruze is comfortable and generally smooth, handling much better than similar models and taking corners with a neutral balance. While the diesel cars isn't as sharp as the petrol, there is the advantage of being able to reach122mph after covering the 0-60mph sprint in 10.3 s. However, the 148bhp engine is quicker and performs much better, with a 8.7s 0-60mph,130mph maximum.
As part of Chevrolet's signature Captiva design, the Cruze 2.0 maintains its sharp creases around the bonnet and lower body, and the long curve of the roofline. Building on the Cruze 1.6s' short overhangs in the front and rear, the 2.0 achieves a balanced ride, both visually and structurally. And with the large headlights and tall grille, and 450-litre boot, this vehicle proves a wise investment. As with the Cruze 1.6s, headroom in the rear might become an issue for taller people, but families with small children will find the inside spacious and accommodating.
The Cruze 2.0's interior is one of Chevrolet's best efforts in terms of accessible, clearly laid out controls, chunky steering-wheel for ease of grip, and big door pockets and center console for maximum storage. In addition, the entry-level S car comes with remote central locking, electric front windows, a CD stereo, and headlights that stay on for a few seconds after the car is locked. The LS model adds air-conditioning and 16" alloy wheels with a chrome radiator grille. Finally, the premier model, the LT, offers 17" alloy wheels, climate control, cruise control, electric rear windows and an upgraded stereo.
The price range for this model is listed at $14,000 to $16,000. And running costs for the diesel Cruze models are comparable to the compact family car mainstream with remarkably good with relatively competitive residual values over time. The 123bhp car returns 51.4mpg on the combined cycle with the 148bhp option only a single mile per gallon behind and offers12,000-mile service intervals and a 3-year/60,000-mile warranty.
Clearly, the 2.0-litre VCDi is your best option when considering a Chevrolet Cruze. While the diesel options will cost more upfront, the ultimate payoff is a more efficient, more economical vehicle that will provide you with an investment rather than a short-term purchase. Whether you're seeking a car to transport and protect your family, or to add to your company's fleet, the Cruze 2.0 is will get you from Point A to Point B with maximum comfort and safety at a minimum cost.
