French car maker Citroen has tried for years to deliver a decent 4x4 to the rest of the world, but for some reason or another they were never able to come out with a 4x4 that people actually wanted. Back in the day they gave the world the much loathed Citroen Mehari, any one reading this old enough to even remember that beast? Didn't think so.
Citroen finally smartened up and collaborated with Mitsubishi and Peugeot to jointly develop a decent 4x4 crosser. This partnership gave the world the well-received Mitsubishi Outlander and the European -favored Peugeot 4007. Citroen also got a decent vehicle out of the deal with the C-Crosser.
Amazingly, the C-Crosser is a fantastic car on all fronts. The exterior will please most people's visual senses with a decidedly Japanese style to it as opposed to the awkward designs of the sister 4007. This Crossover does not suffer from the trappings of many others that look like the boot of an SUV smashed on to the front of a passenger Saloon. The C-Crosser is a nice blend of beauty and practicality.
Inside the cabin is much more luxurious than other cars in its class. Citroen was clever enough to include a decent amount of cutting edge technology. Citroen is offering the C-Crosser with a decent amount of standard equipment. Included on all models of the C-Crosser are an alarm, automatic headlamps, second row seats that slide and recline, six airbags, cruise control, automatic air-conditioning, and anti-lock brakes with EPS. Step-up to the Exclusive trim package and Citroen throws in Bluetooth connectivity that allows for compatible mobile devices to connect to the car and gives hands free telephone usage.
Another clever use of design is the 5+2 seating configuration. The middle seats can slide or even stow completely away of needed and they also recline for those longer drives. The rear seats also are capable of being stowed under the floor panels allowing for a completely flat cargo area to fit just about anything. Of course if all the seats are needed the C-Crosser comfortable seats 7 without a problem. With all the seats stowed beneath the floor panels the cargo area can hold 1,685-litres. With only the rear seats hidden the boot is still a decent 510-litres.
Citroen is offering the C-Crosser with two engine choices. There is a decently powered petrol option that delivers 170bhp on 2.4-litres. The petrol is only offered in a five-speed manual transmission. The C-Crosser also comes with a 156bhp 2.2-litre HDi diesel powered engine that can be had in either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with the gear shift paddles cleverly placed on the steering wheel.
Drivers looking for a vehicle that can be anything to anybody will certainly gravitate to crossover type vehicles that offer a wide range of options for any situation. The C-Crosser offers all of that and maybe a little more in the way of outward appearance. People opting to buy the C-Crosser will be happy to come out to their cars each day and take on the world in their adaptable, pretty little machine.
