Not so long ago looking for an inexpensive car was about as fun as having your teeth pulled. It was a trip down an almost laughable road that saw people figuring out which was the least of all evils. This was a time when Eastern Europe and South Korea foisted tin can of cars that made the driver uncomfortable every time they saw a bigger barreling from behind. That was then, this is now.

Citroen has introduced a wide range of inexpensive cars that do not make the owner feel like they flip upside down with each bump or get crushed by a car this size of a Honda Civic. And with many folks looking for an affordable car this may be the perfect time for the new C2 1.1-litre.

We can start with the smart looking exterior that does not scream economy. The headlamps have a stylish design with the turn signals just above them giving the front end of the car a sophisticate look. The nicely flared wheel housing around both the front and rear tires gives the car a beefier look than one would expect in a small citycar.

While the performance of the car is modest by some terms is actually high for its class level. The C2 1.1-litre engine delivers 61bhp in four-cylinders that will get you from 0-60 in roughly 14.4 seconds with a top speed of 98mph. Given that this car is meant to be driven within the confines of a city neither the off the line speed or the top speed will matter much to most consumers looking for a car of this sort. The good part about the engine is that it delivers 37.7mpg in urban driving, 58.9mpg extra urban and a combined total of 48.7mpg. While these are not earth shattering numbers they will make most people very happy.

The interior of the C2 1.1-litre smartly utilizes every inch of available space. There is enough passenger space the four normal sized adults can ride comfortably. The C2 utilizes many of the interior stylings present in the upgraded C3. The C2 shares a bar rev counter and a cool ventilation system. Citroen has also equipped the C2 interior with upgraded materials throughout that include high-grade plastics and silver detailing around the dash and gauge area. There is wide variety of trim choices that include monotones and two-tone designs. A reach and rake steering wheel is also standard on the C2 1.1-litre.

A number of safety features are included in the new Citroen C2 1.1-litre. These safety features include twin front and side airbags, ABS braking and power assisted steering. Citroen also offers a nice set of cost upgrades if you feel like spending a little more. The upgrades include automatic wipers, automatic headlamps, rear parking sensors and folding rear mirrors.

Overall the Citroen C2 1.1-litre offers budget-minded consumers a low cost car that doesn't look or feel cheap. There might be better cars. There might be cheaper cars. But at the end of the day the none of them will give the buyer looking for a range of options for a low cost as much as the C2 offers.
