Keeping with the idea of practicality and fuel economy over power and performance the Citroen C4 VTS 1.6 THP seems like it should be the one shining example of the opposite of that theme. By far the C4 VTS is most definitely one of the fastest of the Citroen group which shows that something can be done about the power issue but the make seems to keep sacrificing power for fuel economy. This can one of the best things about Citroen but the C4 VTS seems like a waste of a golden opportunity for some real ground to be gained.

The appearance of the VTS is very similar to that of a three door Ford Escort with a bit of French flair. It certainly looks good and at its short stature it is one of the most interesting and visually captivating of the Citroen bunch. The way that the curves of the C4 VTS are put together ensure that it provides both beauty and aerodynamics. What I find most intriguing about the look of the vehicle is the shaped angle that is formed at the rear which almost naturally seems to come out of the gentle curvature from the front going back.

Aside from the way the VTS looks on the outside, the interior works to be pleasing both aesthetically and practically with a sort of space-age look that comes from the way the gauges as well as the other controls are located in the center. The practical nature of the vehicle is wonderful because of the great amount of space that comes out of the boot and the ability of the rear seats to fold down providing even more space should you need it.

As far as the performance of the vehicle is concerned, the C4 VTS has great fuel economy getting an average of 40.9mpg and pumping out CO2 emissions around 164g/km which happens to be pretty high when compared to some of the other C4s. But the biggest downside, which is not saying that the downside is huge, comes in when you look at the vehicle's top speed of 131mph and the VTS gets from 0 to 60 in 8.4 seconds. These are pretty decent aspects of the technical side of the engine but it is kind of a shame when this proves that Citroen can make a vehicle with great qualities but cannot go all the way to make a full on speedster.

The safety aspect of the VTS is pretty standard with six airbags, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution, or EBD, and EBA. There are also standard rear parking sensors and optional front parking sensors, as well as some pretty cool lighting placed in the frames of the doors, just in case you cannot find your way inside of an open door.

Overall, the Citroen C4 VTS 1.6 THP is a pretty nice hatchback with some really cool features. But it is pretty disappointing that it was not decided to go all out with this one.
