Citroen is offering the re-launch of the C5 family-class line with many options with choices in different engines, suspensions, trim levels and length. It seems that Citroen is returning to its roots of offering quirky cars they deliver on performance and economy.

The C5 comes with a choice of four diesel engines. The first choice of engines is the entry level 1.6-litre that delivers a decent 110bhp that will get a driver from 0-60mph in about 13.4 seconds. The next step up in the diesel line is the 2.0 HDi that offers 140bhp and 320NM of torque. Better still is the 2.2-litre HDi with 173bhp and 370Nm of torque. The range topper for the C5 HDi line is the V6 3.0-litre that gives 240bhp and 450Nm that will take the car from 0-60mph in 8.0 seconds. Also available are the 1.6-litre and the 2.0-litre petrol powered engines.

The new C5 is one of the larger cars in its class. The saloon version is a little longer than the Ford Mondeo and nearly as wide while the estate is 5cm longer than the saloon. A nice touch is the particular attention that Citroen paid to making the interior cabin nearly soundproof. . They have outfitted the car with laminated side windows, an acoustic windscreen and absorbent linings in both the doors and roof. This creates a very hushed cabin.

Citroen is well known for putting high-levels of gadgetry in all of its cars with the C5 being no exception. Many of gadgets you find in the upper-level C6 are also present in the C5. Some might think the console is a little cluttered, but the chrome detailing and the upgraded fascia give the car an elegant look.

Some of the standard gadgetry include; cruise control, speed limiter, air-conditioning, an acoustic windscreen and as adaptive front-lighting system. Most trim levels are also equipped with an automatic electric parking-brake and hill-start assist. The tourer version of the C5 is available with front and rear parking sensors, as well as a parking gap assistance system.

Also standard on all C5 versions is the so-called eTouch & Assistance System. This system is an innovative service that will manually or automatically make emergency calls. The eTouch & Assistance System also allows for manual assistance calls utilizing a built-in SIM card for a rapid response on the event of an accident or if the car becomes immobilized. The system will also allows owners to monitor their maintenance needs by accessing what Citroen calls the ?MyCitroen? personal space. The system is also capable of offering advice on how to improve fuel economy.

The C5 line comes with a choice of suspensions that include a conventional double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link in the rear. There is also the choice of the Hydractive 3 Plus self-leveling suspension that adapts to the road to give a very smooth riding experience. The Hydractive 3 allows the driver select from three setting depending on what type of driving they will be doing. The choices allow for a firm ride, a sporty ride and a comfortable ride.

The prices for the various lines run from £19,000 to £30,000. Running expenses all very depending on the engine choice. Gas consumption can be anywhere between 38mpg combined to 50mpg combined.
