Most people don't get all excited when they think of the Citroen line-up, but with the introduction of the newly re-designed C6 people might just take notice. The C6 goes back to the 1998 Paris Motor show where the C6 linage concept was first displayed. At first it seemed like the car was just a work of fantasy alongside the other Citroen models. The back-in-time appeal of the C6 linage was more than just a show piece. Between 1928 and 1933 the C6 dominated the top-of-the-line cars of that era. The C^ sold more than 60,000 cars in that period. Many of the care were sold to famous types who loved having their pictures taken with them.
Highly doubtful that today's celebrity-types would fight to be photographed with a Citroen, but the C6 does give a refreshing look to an otherwise stall class of cars. Most cars of this class all look the same inside and out. Citroen has done a great job making the C6 look fresh, yet classic.
Inside the redesigned C6 it is evident that one is sitting inside a premium, upper-class vehicle. It may very well be one of the best interiors out there in this class. Rear seat space is nice and large and the detailing is very luxurious. There is no doubt this car is meant for the more civilized of the world.
The exterior shape has a modern feel while keeping the classic touches of the older Citroen C6 models. The old DS and SM models are harkened with the elegant arc to the roofline and longish front overhang. The shorter rear overhang and low slung back end bring back memories of some other classic Citroen styles. Citroen claims that their aim with the C6 design was to give the stance and presence of a limousine with a sleek silhouette of a coupe.
The C6 comes with a choice of 3 diesel power plants that include a 2.2-litre HDI, a 2.7-litre HDi V6 and a 3.0-litre HDi V6. All of them are available only with an automatic gearbox, a fact that most people who buy cars in this class will be pleased with. After all who wants to spoil a nice ride with the chore of shifting gears?
While all the engines available are top-notch, the inner working of the 3.3-litre engine are something to behold with highly advanced aluminum cylinder heads, four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshafts, a common-rail fuels injection system delivering fuel at 2,000 bar through piezoelectric injectors, two low inertia turbochargers and an exhaust gas recirculation system.
Each level of C6 features a heads-up display that puts the speed and navigation screen up on the windshield. Also standard on most C6 levels are a comprehensive driver's information system, electronic parking brake, a lane departure warning system, direction Xenon headlamps and a speed limiter. All C6 models come plenty of standard safety feature including nine airbags, ESP, ABS with EBA and EBD, and an active bonnet.
As usual Citroen is making a very profound technological statement across the board with the C6. They certainly have raised the bar for sub-premium executive class vehicles. The outward style, arty-interior and unique feel all around have marked this car as a mold breaker. People looking for a little spice in their lives will be very pleased with any of the C6 Citroen offers.
