Ferrari - A Beauty and A Beast
The new Ferrari 599GTB is a beautiful sight to behold. Its sleekly curved body sits before you on the pavement with the sun glinting off the windshield and the bonnet, and you cannot resist getting closer. Yet, to simply call it a beauty might make it seem genteel and soft to some. It is anything but that. With its 612bhp, it is as strong and powerful as a beast.
The Ferrari 599GTB can really tear up the road, reaching a maximum speed of 205mph. Never mind clocking it from 0 to 62mph, which it is said to do in 3.7 seconds; to get to 124mph only takes a mere 11 seconds. That second figure is probably easier to replicate and to measure, and it is no less impressive than the first.
Ferrari actually spent considerable time and energy with the 599GTB honing the classic Ferrari sound. They went so far as to take the acoustics into account in the engineering of the engine and transmission. The result is a quieter sound inside the car, but one that has the characteristic vigor and appeal expected in a great sports car.
The 599GTB may be a beast in sheer power, but it is certainly not uncouth in any way. Even at top speeds, it maintains its dignity and cool. Part of its subtlety on the road is due to its high-tech suspension and excellent handling features which allow it to possess the road in a sure and commanding way. Ferrari's SCM Magnetorheological Suspension System achieves superior damping by changing the viscosity of the fluid in the dampers of the double wishbone suspension. The result is an easier, more stable drive with less vibration all around.
The Ferrari 599GTB offers the F1 Superfast Gearbox, neither strictly automatic nor manual, but the best of both worlds. This gearbox has extremely fast and powerful shifting. Put it in the Launch Mode, and you can make those fast start times in high performance driving situations. If speedy shifting does not interest you, or you want to save a few pounds, you might want to opt for the standard Ferrari manual gearbox.
As for the interior of the Ferrari 599GTB, it can be personalized to suit your tastes. The carbonfibre trim package as well as the 4-point seat belts will appeal to those who like the sportier image of Ferrari. People who are more interested in the GT aspect of the car will probably opt for the sophistication of leather trim. Not surprisingly, Ferrari equips the 599GTB with a first-rate sound package, including Hi-Fi, CD and iPod inputs. Dual zone climate control is standard, along with safety features like the front and side airbags.
The Ferrari 599GTB offers driving fun and excitement, but it can also deliver a comfortable, quiet ride. Both beauty and beast, this car has the appearance to take your breath away and the heart-pounding speed and power. For all its subtlety in sound engineering and smooth handling abilities, the Ferrari 599GTB will not go unnoticed in your driveway.
