Watch out Italy
Given the fact they coupe cars usually sell due to their look more than anything people often wondered why Hyundai even bothered entering the coupe fray. Hyundai proved many people wrong with the launch of the first coupe that sold well even though it wasn't the best looking coupe on the block. It sold well because it was affordable. They second version of the Hyundai coupe looked a little better and also sold well. Hyundai have launched a third generation Coupe that looks just as good as many of the Italian luxury brand offerings. Hyundai just announced to the world that they are here to take over all class levels of cars.
Hyundai offers the Coupe SIII version with only one engine under the hood. The 2.0-litre that is fitted in the SIII isn't the most powerful engine on the block; however it suits the Hyundai Coupe just fine. It delivers a sweet purr even at higher speeds and affords the driver enough torque to conquer most adventures. Off the line the Coupe SII goes from 0-60mph in roughly 9.3 seconds with a speed topped out at 129mph.
A low price on a sports coupe often means the driver is giving up some comforts in order to put themselves in something pretty. Hyundai has once again delivered a car with excellent features at a ridiculous low price. The Coupe SII comes with air conditioning, part leather trim, a sex-speaker CD stereo with IPod connector and central locking. The Coupe SII offers all this for under £13,000. Buyers who want an even sportier TSIII package can add anthracite-finish alloy wheels, four exhaust pipes, a larger rear spoiler, Eibach sport springs and quilted leather sport seats. The upgrades add only about £1,300 to the cost. An automatic transmission can also be added for around £1,000 extra.
The second best thing about the Hyundai Coupe SIII is the overall look. Hyundai had gone to America for the design for the first release which turned out a great looking car that turned heads. The second edition was done in Korea and people were not as impressed. Hyundai was smart enough to take the design back to the US for this version.
Driving the Coupe SIII is an awesome experience. The engine is much more lightweight than the earlier versions which serves to make the car more nimble in the turns. Push the engine to the limit and the noise gets a little high pitched. The best part of the drive is the smooth ride over any type of surface. Driven properly and this car is a joy on all levels.
High-end automakers need to be very nervous about the Hyundai Coupe SIII because with the changing economic tides around the world people are looking for ways to spend less while getting the same functionality and style. Hyundai have delivered a low priced sports car that is loaded with tons of extras, drives great, looks excellent and doesn't cost tons of money. Why would anyone want to buy a lesser car for more money?
