Hyundai may not be the best carmaker when it comes to building big executive style cars. Most of what they have offered the world has landed with a big loud thud. Hyundai is not a stupid company so they have quietly created a new large format car called the Grandeur that is only being offered as a special order.

Hyundai has put a 3.3-litre V6 under the bonnet of the Grandeur that drives on 233bhp. This engine comes with a five-speed automatic transmission that hinders the overall performance. The car will get from 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds. This number would probably be better with a manual transmission, but Hyundai doesn't offer a manual version. Not offering a manual is probably smart since most buyers of executive type cars don't want to spend their energy shifting gears.

The suspension is a double wishbone at the front and a multi link system at the rear. Hyundai has spent a considerable amount of energy making the Grandeur drive like a true luxury saloon. In fact this suspension rides so smooth that it puts the Grandeur near the top of the class.

People looking for a large car that feels like a large car will be pleased with the size of the Hyundai Grandeur. The car measures in at a whopping 4,895mm in length which is much larger than both the BMW 5 series and the Mercedes E-Class. It is also longer and wider that the Volvo S80. The size of the Grandeur leaves plenty of room for both legroom and a huge boot that gives 469-litres of luggage space.

Hyundai has equipped the Grandeur with a decent amount of gadgets. Standard equipment includes the SmartNav satellite navigation system, a trip computer, rain sensing wipers, auto-dimming view mirrors, cruise control, leveling headlamp beams, steering wheel audio controls, two front airbags, side and curtain airbags and anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution. All of this is standard for less £30,000. Anyone who has priced the German-made machines will never believe they get all that equipment for that little price.

Oddly enough that is not all you get when you buy the Hyundai Grandeur you also get 17-inch alloy wheels, climate control, reversing sensors, an eight speaker Infinity stereo with six-disc CD changer and MP3 capability, electric leather seats, ESP stability control, electric sunroof, heated seats, xenon headlamps and an electric rear blind screen. Seriously this is a lot of stuff for such a little cost. Hyundai may be surprised when this car actually starts to sell.

The Hyundai Grandeur is not a perfect executive level car by any means, but for people looking for a big car there are a lot of positives. The biggest positive is obviously the cost to purchase the vehicle. There is not another car on the planet that gives this much for this little. The engine being offered is powerful and the overall ride is very pleasant. The car offers serious leg and boot room that is not beat by many cars in this class.
