Hyundai has always been viewed across the world as the budget car company that delivered good quality for little cost. These simple cost efficient cars were often ignored by their competitors who didn't worry about Hyundai because of the way they were simply viewed as the car you bought when you couldn't afford the real thing. Well, now the world is taking notice because the little Korean company is now the 6th largest automaker in the world. And now they are aiming to take a good share of the European market.
The car that Hyundai is betting will be the car that helps them become stronger in the UK is the i10 which is replacing the Hyundai Amica. The Amica was an adequate car for its class, but Hyundai is no longer happy being adequate. With the new i10 Hyundai is tell the rest of the car manufacturers that they will need to sit up and take notice.
The first place that many companies start with a city car is trying to fill it to the rim with gadgetry that will make the young car buyers drool, but the first place that Hyundai started was building a car that worked great for those people who live and work in the city. The suspension is built on one of the largest wheelbases in the city car class which helps it steer comfortably around any city obstacle all while giving a nice smooth ride. And don't forget that they are smart enough to make the bonnet short to allow for a maximum turning radius.
Hyundai is offering the i10 with two engine choices. The first is the 1.1-liter 4-cylinder machine that is available in the Classic and the Comfort trim levels and runs off 66bhp. The 1.2-litre adds about 18 percent of power to the 1.1-litre. The smaller engine will get up to a top speed of around 94mph while the large engine choice gets up to 102mph. Both engines are powered by petrol fuel. Fuel consumption is also very good with an estimated 46.3mpg city, 64.2mpg motorway and 56.5mpg combined.
The exterior style falls somewhere between the overly stylized and a box on wheel. As usually Hyundai isn't going to win any design awards, but what it does offer is sure to please many people. After all not everyone in the UK wants a car that looks like a racecar. Some people just want simple, practical styling. They i10 is curvy where it should be curvy and square where it needs to be square.
Inside the i10 is simple for the most part. Hyundai has made the cabin rather normal looking, but they have focused a lot of attention on designing the car for safety as oppose to just show. All the i10s come with four airbags and anti-lock brakes. The only fancy thing on the inside is the dash mounted gear-shift that affords a little more room at the middle of the car. The i10 comes standard with air-conditioning, remote locking system and electric windows up front.
The best part about the Hyundai i10 isn't even part of the car it is what comes with the car. Hyundai offers all the i10s with 5-year unlimited mileage warranties. This is something perfect for the person looking to keep their expenses down and something not many other car companies offer in this class of car.
