Hyundai might want to use ?I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends? as its theme music from here on out. Thanks to their friends over at Kia (technically they are all in the same family) the latest version of the i30 CRDi has taken huge steps to becoming one of the top selling family hatchbacks in the UK.
The i30 CRDi is being sold specifically in the European market which has allowed Hyundai to put in things that matter most to the UK drivers. Things like upgraded safety features, decent diesel engines and a quality ride all while keeping the gadgetry to a minimum.
Hyundai is giving buyer the option of two different CRDi options under the hood of the i30. Both are a 1.6-liter with a choice of either 80bhp or 113bhp of power. All the engines come standard with a 5-speed manual while the larger of the diesels being offered with a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The larger CRDi will get the car from 0-60 in 11 seconds flat and up to a top speed of 127mph. As expected with a car in this class fuel consumption is rather good. The 89bhp version of the 1.6-litre CRDi will get an estimated 64.2mpg combined and releases a low amount of CO2 at around 115g/km.
When it comes to family hatchbacks most of them combine the ride quality and comfort of a larger car. The i30 comes close to the top of the line, but isn't the best car out there. The drivability is comfortable and responsive especially when you keep in mind the low overall cost of the vehicle. The suspension is comprised of a fully-independent multi-link rear suspension. And let's be honest people are willing to sacrifice a in the comfort level to save a bunch of money. The power steering is the most responsive, but it will do for a car in this class.
Hyundai has focused their attention things that actually matter and left out most of the superfluous stuff. The i30 classic does come standard with air-conditioning, power front windows, remote central locking system, front fog lamps, headlight that stay on the road through turns and a trip computer.
The interior is what you would expect from a Hyundai. The construction is sturdy and the materials are all high grade. All the instrument dials are easy to find and understand. The interior space is rather roomy for a smaller car with a boot space that is a very nice 340-litres with the rear seats in place and a whooping 1,250-litres.
The Hyundai i30 CRDi comes with a 5 year Triple Care package that gets an unlimited mileage warranty, roadside assistance and free annual health check-ups on the car. Standard service intervals at 20,000 miles or one year. This means the owner isn't going to have to go to the shop over and over again.
Hyundai has once again delivered an affordable car, but this time they have upped the ante by adding a few creature comforts and a body style that doesn't scream CHEAP! There is a lot to love about this car and very little to hate. Good news for Hyundai, bad news for the rest of the family hatch sellers.
