MPV's come in different sizes and shapes - definitely the average family of 2 to 4 people will no doubt have a wide range to choose from but, for a family with a more number of people, the choice are not so wide. Fortunately, the new Hyundai i800 has eight seats and even has sufficient room to put a little distance between the noisiest offspring and the driver. It absolutely is not targeted for families, as the i800 will in reality seat 8 adults in comfort and has enough space for luggage too - so expect to see many on the airport taxi run.
Hyundai i800 is not even a bad looking vehicle. Admittedly style is perhaps last on the list of priorities when it comes to selecting a people-mover; however the i800 has an eye-catching face with big headlamps and a big grille. And the interior is also a satisfying place to be. There is just one model present that comes with a raft of standard equipments that includes air conditioning, heated driver's seat, electric windows, ESP, reversing sensors and 16" alloys. Mood lighting is present in the middle as well as rear rows with an option of colors to choose and the tinted rear windows which makes available both privacy as well as a cooler cabin.
Driving the i800 is mechanically amazingly refined. In spite of its big size it feels more like a car than you could think of - however with the added advantage of being quite high up and its gear change and steering wheel are both extremely smooth. The 2.5-litre 168bhp turbo charged diesel engine proposes decent acceleration and also pulls the vehicle without much effort even loaded fully. It is able to reach 62mph in just about 14.5 seconds which is not too bad.
The only existent hitch with the i800 is the inevitable lack of flexibility in a van-based body shell that has no internal bulkheads. Over bumps, you can hear quite a number of creaks and squeaks at the rear - although a cabin filled with kids can soon drown these out. And undoubtedly it is so large that for the driver who is less confident its sheer size might prove a bit frightening around town. Added to this it can be noted that the i800 is also too high to fit in the majority of standard public car parks, so finding a place to park it could prove difficult at times.
The ride's not mostly harsh, however a car that has to cater anywhere between one to eight passenger is never going to be great all the time. With one or two people on board, things are a little jiggly, however once the i800 is completely loaded, the ride is to a great deal improved.
However, even after taking these points in view, it cannot be denied that the i800 is a great value for money. Priced around £21k there is no suspicion that you will be getting a vast amount of vehicle for the money.
