Jaguar's X-TYPE 2.2D is trying to prove that it deserves its place among other top ranked automobiles in the same class. Jaguar has designed the 2.2D series as a diesel powered automobile that also reflects the shift in the compact executive market. The newly designed 2.2D features a 2,198cc 152bhp engine that can produce 366Nm of torque at just 1,800rpm. The 2.2D is able to go from 0-60mph in an impressive 8.7 seconds and tops out at a max speed of 134mph.

Recent improvements to the X-TYPE 2.2D include a six speed automatic transmission, which utilizes Jaguar's Sequential Shift for manual gear changing. The ratios of the six gear transmission were chosen in order to provide the driver with a refined driving experience while maintaining its sporty performance. The 2.2D is capable of reaching the maximum torque level while in second gear, the inclusion of the auto transmission allows for the 2.2D to be able to reach maximum torque in all six gears by implementing optimum gear change points in order to insure the best use of the power that the car is capable of producing. The only drawback to having the auto transmission installed is that it slows the journey to 60mph to 9.5 seconds.

When this version was first released the interior featured all of the high quality and standards that drivers have come to expect from Jaguar. The newer release of the 2.2D manages to blend the traditional interior wood veneers and chrome cappings with some of today more modern accessories such as multi-function LCD screens, airbags and a multi-speaker stereo system. Jaguar has proven that you don't have to lose any of the class in order to accommodate newer technologies.

The exterior of the X-TYPE 2.2D that the front of the car has been revised and now includes a 3D bright mesh grill that features the Jaguar growler emblem. The front bumpers have also been retooled, there is also now a bright splitter located in the lower air intakes and the old aerial antenna has been replaced with a roof mounted Antenna Pod that gives the car a more modern look. Jaguar has also added cleaner, more modern side moldings in order to give the 2.2D a lower, sportier profile. The door mirrors now feature turn signal indicators and Jaguar has added revised alloy wheels along with a wider selection of color options.

The 2.2 liter diesel powered engine is more economical to run than some may think it is; it averages 47mpg combined. If the automatic transmission is chosen instead of the manual, the combined economy drops to 41mpg with CO2 emissions of rising from 159g/km to 184g/km. The 2.2D also has other worthwhile qualities aside from efficiency; its quick, offers an impressively smooth ride and is fun to drive. There are enough good qualities that the 2.2D has to offer that it may attract a new fun-loving client base. Jaguar has proven that the X-TYPE 2.2D still has a lot to offer and is worth a look.
