Cee'd EcoDynamic:

Our Rating: No Rating Available

Ever since Kia first launched they have been viewed as the car maker that no one really wanted to buy. They only bought them because they were affordable and didn't' offend like so many of the other ?cheap? cars on the market. Then once the buyer got them home they realized that they were well made cars that were insanely reliable. This led to people realizing that they were going to continue buying Kias no matter what. Then Kia started paying more attention to making the cars a little more ?wantable?. The made better looking exteriors and started adding fun little gadgets that most people didn't expect in such an affordable car. Their latest re-design is the Kia Cee'd.

Of course there are a lot of people these days that are looking for cars that are earth-friendly. All the Cee'd line-up gets excellent gas mileage and emits very low CO2, but the top of the line as far as eco-friendliness goes is the Cee'd EcoDynamics.

The Kia Cee'd EcoDynamic is powered by a 1.6-litre CRDi that comes with 89bhp of power and a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. Being that this is a diesel the driver loses a little power, but gains in the fuel economy front. This little beauty will get from 0-60mph in 13.5 seconds with a top speed of 107mph. The good news is that most people who look for eco cars aren't usually looking for speed.

A 6-speed manual gearbox is hooked to the engine as the only shifting option to help keep the overall body weight down. Kia has equipped the Cee'd EcoDynamic with a their Intelligent Stop and Go system that will turn the engine off when the car is in idle. Then when the car needs to move again it will turn itself back on saving a decent amount of fuel in heavy traffic situations. Of course the stop and go system is not too helpful when driving wide open for long distances. Fuel consumption is rather impressive with an estimated 56.mpg urban, 72.4mpg extra urban and 65.7mpg combined.

Kia has not skimped when it came to the suspension. They have included a nice little system that includes a MacPherson strut at the front and a nifty little independent set-up in the rear. This suspension makes for excellent cornering a very smooth ride quality.

Kia is offering the EcoDynamic only in the Cee'd 2 trim level. The equipment level is very high for a car of this class. The standard equipment includes air-conditioning, CD stereo with MP3 auxiliary input, electric front windows, heated mirrors and 16-inch alloys.

Upping the ante a little bit more on the affordable yet quality front Kia has equipped the car with a series of standard safety features rarely found in this class of car. These include front airbags on both sides, curtain airbags, active front head rests, anti-lock brakes and a vehicle stability management system.

Anyone looking for a sporty 5-door hatch that is also excellent with fuel will be very pleased with the Kia Cee'd EcoDynamics. This car offers serious drivability, fun and amazing mpg. This is another huge step in the right direction for the Korean carmaker.
