When people think of Rio they envision tanned bodies lining white sanded beaches and a party all the time attitude. When people think of Kia they think of sensible cars that don't cost a lot of money, but will get you from point-a to point-b in good and safe fashion. Rarely would people think of the words Rio and Kia having anything in common, but then Kia went and named a car the Kia Rio. The first version of the auto was the furthest thing from what people normally associated with Rio. The original car was a boring, square mess. Kia as revamped the Rio and while it still isn't what one would expect when dreaming of Rio it could be called a vacation version from the normal family hatch.
The latest redo in their line-up of cars is the Kia Rio. The older versions of the Kia Rio had personality conflicts that had it trying to decide if it was as family hatch or if it was an estate. The redesign has it sitting firmly in the family hatch world with an exterior that looks sophisticated and sporty at the same time. The redesign has also made it a little larger placing it as one of the larger cars in the family hatch class.
The Kia Rio is being offered with two engine choices under the bonnet. The entry level engine is a 1.4-litre DOHC 16-valve petrol unit that delivers with 96bhp and 125Nm of max torque at 4,700rpm. Those numbers make the Rio one of the most powerful cars that can be found in the 1,400cc class. This power gets the Rio Chill from 0-62mph in 12.3 seconds while keeping the emissions to a low 150g/m of CO2.
The most impressive thing about the new Kio Rio is the fact that the basic S model only costs £7,495. Buyers who are willing to part with just £500 more can get the GS model that includes; air-conditioning, central locking system, power steering, electric front windows, twin front airbags and anti-lock brakes.
Kia is also offering the Rio in an LS model which includes all the features of the GS, but also adds 15-inch alloys, body coloured mirrors and door handles, front fog lamps, active head restraints and remote central locking system. Buyers looking to sport up the family hatch can add the Dynamic package that adds a rear spoiler, sunroof and an Electronic Stability Programme. There is also the special edition of the Rio called the Chill that offers some nice upgrades and a Chill only Cool Blue colour.
In order to let the world know that they are serious about building cars that are reliable Kia offers a 7 year warranty on all the Kia Rios including the Kia Rio Chill. People who remember the Rio as a boxy little Focus wannabe will be very pleased to find out they at the new Rio has upped the ante and is now an excellent choice for people looking for a fun car that is also affordable.
