Gallardo Spyder: Superior Driving Ragtop

Our Rating: No Rating Available

Often when car companies create a convertible it is an afterthought in engineering that leads to cars that don't handle all that well at high speeds. The basic idea is they take a production vehicle that is selling well and chop the lid of it and call it a day. The good news for people who want a well engineered convertible the engineers at Lamborghini knew full well from the get go that they would be making a Gallardo Spyder. This fact allowed them to design the car with enough suspension and framework to feel like a top-notch drive even sans roof.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder is a revelation in ragtop world because it retains everything that is good about a Lamborghini and admonishes everything that is often bad about a ragtop version of a production vehicle. The Gallardo Spyder still feels plenty stiff due to a minor tweak the engineers made by adding a little more stiffness to the sills to account for the missing roof.

Other pleasing element of the Gallardo Spyder construction is that the roof folds in about 20 seconds with a flip of two interior buttons located on the dashboard. Flipping these switches will either raise the roof into place or hide it securely underneath the rear-mounted engine.

Under the bonnet Lamborghini has placed and engine that can deliver power of 520bhp that can be attached either to a six-speed manual gearbox or to an automatic e-gear sequential shifter. When driven properly the Gallardo Spyder can get from 0-60mph in 4.1 seconds. While not as fast as the other Gallardos it is still an impressive number considering the added weight from the ragtop mechanism.

Lamborghini has also stiffened up the suspension a little bit and also sharpened the suspension make it drive a little stiffer overall. There is also the ability to switch the car to a mode they refer to as ?Sport.? This Sport mode makes car almost rigid which makes is a pleasure to drive on the track or on the various back roads around the UK.

At the end of the day Lamborghini will get some gripes from folks who know how to properly drive car that the car maker is pandering to those who don't by including a 4-wheel drive system. The good news for both them and Lamborghini is that they have put a 4-wheel drive system on the Gallardo Spyder that feels more like a 2-wheel drive. Though the car maker didn't make this car for people who like to drive cars they made the Gallardo Spyder for people who like to show off their cars.

Car dealers who sell the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder are sure to see a boost in sales and also lookie-loos wanting a peak at something they can't have. The merging of Lamborghini and Audi had a lot of people worried that the German car maker would sanitize the sporty Lamborghini brand, but as the years progress it is evident that Audi wants to stay within the confines of what made Lamborghini one of the finest and most respected brands in the world.

Matte Pink Lambo Murcielago Hitting London's Streets

There's talk that a Qatar Royal is racing down the streets of London in a light blue Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce like there is no tomorrow, but he might have a sibling or a significant other that has a thing for pink, as another supercar has been seen coated in a girlie pink colour.  It might be that the owner is showing his family colour or simply loves the pink hue of flamingos - but hardcore super-stallion aficionados thinks it is an abomination.
