Murcielago LP640: The Future is Now (Again)

Our Rating: No Rating Available

How much further ahead can Lamborghini be when it comes to futuristic car styles? When the Murcielago was introduced back in 2001 it was revered for how cool and forward thinking it was. Here is it is a decade later and the design is still considered ahead of its time. Take one look at the Murcielago LP640 and you will think you are living in a post apocalyptical world where all the cars are made to withstand nuclear fallout and alien laser beams. The fact though is that there has been no apocalypse and the only aliens living in the UK are those from the States.

The latest version of the Murcielago gets the LP640 name as many of the other Lamborghinis get there name by the size and placement of the engine. The ending is placed in the rear or in Italian ?Longitudinal Posteriore? which equals LP. The 640 comes from the amount of horsepower the engine delivers. So there you have it the LP640.

Under the bonnet the 640bhp is delivered by a 6.5-litre engine that runs on 12-cylinders. This fact alone makes is a more powerful car than the Carrera GT or the Mercedes McLaren SLR. And by many observations the car looks a lot better than either of those vehicles as well. This engine tops the speed chart at 210mph and can get from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds. The standard gearbox is of the 6-speed manual variety, but the Murcielago LP640 is also offered with an optional e-gear automatic box with a new setting called ?Thrust? which is a launch control module.

The thing that separates a car that is built to win drag races and one that is built to win real races is the fact that they need to handle well on straights as well as turns. The Murcielago LP640 is equipped with a massive breaking system in both the front and rear. And of course these are anti-lock brakes that are controlled by a four-channel system with electronic brake control and traction control that features a electro-hydraulic control unit and four different speed sensors to understand just how much brake to apply.

No insure that they stayed a head of the other car makers in the design department, Lamborghini has given the Murcielago LP640 a few exterior style tweaks. The minor adjustments include exhausts that are now incorporated into the diffuser of the rear bumper. The overall look is also a touch more aggressive that leads to much more race car look to the exterior.

Inside the Murcielago LP640 Lamborghini has included bigger seats, an amazing stereo system with a Kenwood head unit, 6.5-inch widescreen monitor with DVD, MP3 and WMA player. There is also the available cost upgrade of a Satellite Navigation system. Of course as with many of the cars in the Lamborghini line-up there are plenty of interior packages that can be had to help personalize the car and make it even more unique.

As the rest of the world tries to catch up Lamborghini has once again delivered an outstanding power machine in the Murcielago LP640. The best part is that if one feels like it they can drive it back and forth to work on a daily basis.

Matte Pink Lambo Murcielago Hitting London's Streets

There's talk that a Qatar Royal is racing down the streets of London in a light blue Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce like there is no tomorrow, but he might have a sibling or a significant other that has a thing for pink, as another supercar has been seen coated in a girlie pink colour.  It might be that the owner is showing his family colour or simply loves the pink hue of flamingos - but hardcore super-stallion aficionados thinks it is an abomination.
