Range Rover Sport: League Leading Luxury
Everyone knows that if a consumer wants a luxury 4x4 they should focus their attention on anything in the Land Rover line-up of vehicles. Other car makers may be able to match the luxury accoutrements inside the cabin or be on a level playing field when it comes to exterior style. The one place that makers like Mercedes, Porsche or BMW cannot match in the luxury 4x4 world is how well the Land Rover brand does where it really counts: off-road. The best car in the Land Rover line-up for off-roading in style is the Range Rover Sport.
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is the only vehicle on the planet that should be purchases by people who want a true luxury saloon that will also carry them up a mountain to their vacation home or over icy patched to the summit of a ski resort most people have to helicopter into. The true test of a vehicle like this one though is whether or not it drives nicely on non-rough surfaces. And given that this is a 4x4 made by Land Rover the answer is a resounding yes.
Land Rover has equipped the Range Rover Sport with air springs, an electric dampening set-up and anti-roll bars that work as the car moves through various terrains. The best addition to the latest model though is the electric dampening system that works with the air supported suspension. The dampening system checks the conditions up to 300 times per second and makes spilt second adjustments to ensure that the vehicle is performing at the best possible set-up to keep the driver and passengers safe.
Under the bonnet the Land Rover Range Rover Sport is being offered with three different engine choices. The sportiest of the engine choices is the 503bhp 5.0-liter V8 with a petrol powered supercharger. This engine can get the skilled gear shifter from 0-62mph in 5 seconds flat. That number is impressive for a sports coupe and this is a large 4x4 being discussed here.
The other engine choices are both diesel powered. The entry level oil-burner is a stout 3.0-litre V6 that runs on 243bhp of power which replaced the boring 2.7-litre 188bhp that was nearly the laughing stock of the sporting world. The second diesel choice is a 272bhp turbo V8. Drivers looking for both power and affordability will most likely drift to the 2.7-litre engine as it offers the best fuel consumption numbers while still driving on good power.
Interior styling is what one would expect from a Land Rover Range Rover Sport. Nice soft touch plastics and leather throughout create a luxury feeling while the driver transverses over humps and valleys. Cargo space is generous and starts with 958-litres with all the seats in place and steps up to 2013 with the rear seats folded.
Buyers looking for a luxury saloon that will take them and their friends to weekend excursions in style will get everything they need in the Land Rover Range Rover Sport. This vehicle is the top of its class from comfort to safety to fun.
