The Range Rover line from Land Rover has always been the go to car when it came 4x4s that drove like an off-road rally champ, but felt like a luxury saloon on the inside. For years the company relied on delivering an excellent version of a vehicle that lived-up to both those expectations. However good the 4x4 was it never truly matched with the 4x4s that lacked the luxury trappings. Then in 2005 Land Rover released the Sport version of the Range Rover.
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport took all the great things that made the Range Rover line excellent for 4x4ing and enhanced them all while keeping the luxury appointments at the top of the class. Land Rover has equipped the Range Rover Sport with air springs, an electric dampening set-up and anti-roll bars that work as the car moves through various terrains. The best addition to the latest model though is the electric dampening system that works with the air supported suspension. The dampening system checks the conditions up to 300 times per second and makes spilt second adjustments to ensure that the vehicle is performing at the best possible set-up to keep the driver and passengers safe.
Under the bonnet the Land Rover Range Rover Sport is being offered with three different engine choices. The sportiest of the engine choices is the 503bhp 5.0-liter V8 Supercharged HSE. This massive piece of engine is powered by petrol fuel and delivers and impressive 525Nm of torque to go with excellent off the line speeds. This engine was designed in conjunction with Jaguar and comes with a twin-vortex supercharger and advanced variable camshaft timing system that makes it one of the best engines of its class. This engine can take the Range Rover Sport from 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds and tops the speed chart at 140mph.
The Range Rover Sport comes with what Land Rover calls the Terrain Response system that allows the driver to choose from five different types of terrain. These choices are broken into tarmac situations and off-road situations. On the tarmac the driver can choose from grass, gravel or snow options. When faced with off-road situations drivers can choose from mud and ruts, sand or rock crawl.
Land Rover has equipped the Range Rover Sport 5.0 V8 Supercharged HSE with a host of luxury items that have become expected in the Land Rover line-up. Some of the standard items include; alloy wheels, touch screen navigation system, voice activated 4x4 interfaces, Harman/Kardon stereo system with 9-speakers, USB connector for music devices, leather seats, Bluetooth connectivity and Dynamic Stability Control.
Consumers looking for petrol power under the hood of their Land Rover Range Rover sport will love everything that the 5.0 V8 Supercharged HSE engine offers. The only drawback of course is that the fuel consumption numbers are pretty low at an estimated 19mpg combined. Of course most people who are willing to shell out the kind of money it takes to get behind the wheel of a 4x4 like this don't worry too much about the price of petrol.
