British Supercar manufacturer Lotus Motors has worked hard on the new Lotus Exige S performance pack to give a car that is sharper, faster and gives better value for money. The clinically executed new Lotus Exige S is sure to appeal the niche section of buyers who have a preference for the extreme with its sheer power that can be felt even when its not running in a circuit.

The new performance pack comes with 240 bhp of power, that's a flat 19 bhp extra from the existing 221 bhp! With an additional 12lb/ft torque, this 935 kg powerhouse moves 60mph in just 4.5 seconds with a max speed of 145mph! Its like running a Porsche 911 GT3 at half the price. The launch control system of the Exige S ensures a smooth leap off the line, and the new traction control system will ease the ride at high speed corners. The performance pack comes with more bite, with a wider and full length roof panel that improves the efficiency of the intercooler. The rear wing has been elaborately worked upon, with inspirations drawn from the concept car Exige GT3 road. The new rear wing is designed to ensure passage of maximum airflow which reduces drag and increases stability at high speeds. Attached to the body shell by rear end plates, the rear wing is pushed 61 mm further back, and is 46 mm higher and 181 mm wider. The engine system becomes more efficient with more air passing through the radiator due to a more angular air intake mouth in a restyled front end.

Lotus Motors has tried hard to give a car that is proportionately designed, elegant as well as full of muscle. The car's however not too luggage-friendly, the cabin floors have inaccessible corners and visibility out the back is almost zero. The incremental cost of the new Exige S performance pack represents a fairly decent value with £3,000, it is optional if you'd like to increase it further with add-ons like paints and wheels. Direct competitors of the Exige S include the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Renault Clio 197 cup, but make sure you have those extra bucks before even thinking of these.

The low running costs of the Lotus Exige S performance pack sets it apart from competitors. With a 1.8-litre engine that is both small and economical, the Exige S can equal the performance of the big boys in terms of acceleration and nimbleness. The lighter mass puts less pressure on the tyres and brakes, making the running costs further low. The tyres are however expensive to acquire, with the weird sized 195/50 ZR16s at the front and the back having 225/40 ZR17s. The emissions, though reasonable, are however not the best in the industry.

The features and price tag of the new Exige S performance pack shows the eagerness of Lotus Motors to develop mid-range performance cars that are easier on pockets. Its beautifully crafted, haltingly quick, and easier to own than a 911 Porsche GT3. Are you complaining?
