Family-Style MPV

It used to be the taking a week out in the country skiing or camping meant that people didn't bring tons of stuff. Some people even referred to this sort of event as ?roughing it?. Somehow today when people say they are roughing it seems that they bring more stuff with them than they even own. Then on top of that as people grow older they also seem to have kids. The typical person who likes these sorts of adventures starts with some sort of mini-MPV or Family hatch and then works their way all the way up to a full-size or even large MPV. The well healed of those types also want the creature comforts of a luxury car within the cabin of an MPV. When it comes to luxury MPVs there are few good ones to choose from and they all seem to be made by Mercedes. One of the best that they make is the Vito Dualiner 115CDI.

Of course the typical reaction from people about the Vito is that they say they are not putting their family in a commercial van no matter what luxury automaker produces it in their plants. Of course the Vito is a commercial van, but the Dualiner version is not. The Mercedes-Benz Dualiner comes with 6-seats in the form of two-bench seats and plenty of room in the boot for all the things a family needs to ?rough it?. Mercedes has also been nice to replace the metal panels on the sides with glass panes so the kiddies can enjoy the scenery.

Under the bonnet of the Mercedes-Benz Dualiner 115CDI is a peppy little 150bhp diesel burning engine that comes with 330Nm or torque to power the family up the hills to the ski resort. The engine is standard attached to a 6-speed manual transmission. Fuel consumption sits at an estimated 32mpg even well filled to the gills with roughing it equipment.

The interior space is nicely appointed with standard equipment that includes CD Stereo, air-conditioning and a Satellite Navigation system that needs CD-ROMs to places outside the UK. The rear seats recline to allow for extra comfort for the back seat passengers. There is enough space in the boot area to allow for skis and other long objects to be put into the vehicle without disturbing the seating configuration.

The Mercedes-Benz Dualiner 115CDI is equipped with a host of safety features to help keep the family safe. Some of these safety features include; anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brake force distribution, electronic stability system and acceleration skid control. The only real glaring omission on the safety front is the lack of standard airbags in the front compartment. It seems rather odd that Mercedes would leave that out of any vehicle these days.

Mercedes has done a good job creating a luxury-like version of a commercial van that can also be used as a family-style MPV for those types of people who enjoy long trips out to the country with half their belongings packed in the back. This vehicle won't break any sales records, but it will have plenty of buyers.
