Autoweb Prize Draw Scam
Please be aware Autoweb.co.uk will never contact you in any way regarding winning a car prize.
Due to our success a number of scamsters are calling Autoweb’s advertisers posing as if they represent Autoweb.co.uk. They then go on to claim that you have won a car and offer you bogus contact details to draw you into an elaborate phone or email scam.

Car Buying Scams
A number of users have contacted Autoweb regarding email scams they have received while using our website. Whilst these scams have only affected a small minority of our users it is a scam that has the potential to leave you thousands of pounds out of pocket.

Shipping Scam
The supposed buyer will offer to send you a cheque for an amount greater than the actual asking price of the vehicle. They will then claim that this is to cover the shipping costs and will later ask you to send a cheque back for the difference. The initial cheque they send will appear to clear - only later to find that it was a counterfeit and will be withdrawn by your bank. By this time it is too late and they have cashed your genuine cheque for the supposed over payment.
There are other versions of a shipping scam, where you as a buyer can be duped where the ultimate outcome is the scammers take money from you without there ever being a car for sale. Our advice is never buy a car unseen and never buy from abroad - anybody can download some images and information online and place a crooked ad.
We treat this kind of behaviour very seriously. We are currently working on new methods to attempt to stop this but in the mean time we will issue this warning on our site.
Any genuine buyer should not have a problem picking up the telephone. We have even contemplated removing the email field all together but resent the fact that these people are limiting our freedom of speech. We welcome any ideas or suggestions that you may have.

Email Scam
One of our concerned users alerted us to an email scam which draws people in to sending an email by putting a wrong telephone number and usually underpricing the car.
In a nutshell the scammers will try and get a deposit out of you for a car that is abroad that you haven't even seen! They sometimes will even go as far as saying that they have all registration documents and could scan them and email you them.
