Skoda Citigo is a city car produced since 2011. The Citigo is a rebadged version of Volkswagen’s city car up! a model under VW’s New Small Family car line. Both the Citigo and up! are assembled in Bratislava, Slovakia.
VW’s Walter de’Silva and Klaus Bischoff designed all the concepts for up! which was finally introduced at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Citigo carries minor modifications of the up! including front and rear styling. The Citigo itself was launched in Czech Republic two months after up!’s debut in Germany. Skoda expanded its market to include the rest of Europe and a few Asian countries in 2012. Production for all versions began in December 2011.
In February 2013, Skoda released a Sport version of the Citigo at the Geneva Motor Show. The modifications include new alloy wheels, fog lights and tinted windows. The Sports version also has a racing stripe in different colours and lower suspension. Citigo Sports is Skoda’s take on SEAT’s Mii, another rebadge of up! which has always been fitted for sporty drivers. Apart from up! and Mii, Citigo also competes against Fiat 500, Kia Picanto and Hyundai i10. Reviews have lauded the Citigo’s advantage in style, space and quality against the three.
