Volkswagen Fox Review

The Volkswagen Fox is known as the most inexpensive model in the company’s history. But don’t let its price fool you: like any other vehicle from the renowned brand, the Fox promises an easy to drive experience, a roomy interior, and an overall quality build. Although it does not equal the charm of more famous models such as the Toyota Aygo and Fiat Panda, the Fox’s luxurious and versatile interior surprises once you step into the vehicle. This Volkswagen model also features a diverse range of trims and engines that cater to every kind of budget and driving need.

Pros

The 1.2-litre at 55bhp and the 1.4-litre at 75bhp are the Fox’s start up engines. The former performs adequately along town roadways and provides a decent fuel economy at 46mpg. But since it is the smallest engine, expect its 0 to 62mph sprint to happen after 17.5 seconds. The latter engine is much faster and more powerful but is not as capable around townways. Although the 1.4-litre unit can arrive at 62mph in just 13 seconds, it isn’t as impressive when going on regular speeds during daily drives.

Handling is decent given the Volkswagen Fox’s light steering and quick gearchange. Three-point turns, turning into tight circles, and low speed handling are not compromised by this model’s more affordable price. Along most road surfaces and conditions, the ride is generally comfortable and well handled.

The Fox keeps in style with the interior’s Paul Smith-style fabrics. Both the front and back areas are generous in space and comfort, with the seats’ scalloped backs providing adequate support and extra room. Splitting and sliding the rear seats in the Urban Fox models can make for more luggage space. Four adults will have n problems settling into the car when travelling through short distances.

Since boot splitting, folding, and tumbling the rear seats can expand space, then you’ll have no problems fitting bulkier items out back. If you have to lug large items daily, then the Urban Fox model is the best choice as it offers a sliding forward feature to its seats. This feature provides easier access to the rear compared to the standard models. The boot space opening’s tall shape and wide opening tailgate makes fitting in bulky and trickier items at the back much easier as well. Additional storage space is also provided for in rear cupholders, a cubbyhole near the gearstick, and a decent sized glovebox.

Cons

The vehicle isn’t as impressive on tougher and rougher roads. Expect bodyroll to be noticeable when going into sharp corners quickly. Steering isn’t as responsive either on these road conditions.

Visibility from the driver’s position is enough but you may have some problems looking at the rear area while parking or driving. Thankfully the steering wheel adjusts easily for any height and is within easy reach, but its position is more comfortable for taller persons. Shorter individuals may have some trouble during longer journeys.

The Volkswagen Fox is a worthy addition to the Coupe market, providing not just luxury at an affordable price but also a decent drive around town.
