The Audi A4 is a compact car that has started production in 1994. This Audi model spans four generations and follows the design pattern of Volkswagen’s B platform vehicles. The A4 comes in saloon, sedan, wagon, or estate models.

The first generation Audi A4 debuted late 1994 and was manufactured till 2001. This model followed the Group B5 platform of Volkswagen. The A4 was also the launching pad of the latest tiptronic automatic transmission of Volkswagen’s B5 platform. Drivers chose between a 1.6 or 2.8 litre petrol engine and 1.9 lire diesel engine when the car was first released in the European market. The first generation underwent a makeover during the stretch from 1997 to 2001. The newer 2.8 litre 30 valve V6 engine was also installed during the makeover.

The second generation A4, also known as the B6, entered the market in 2001 to 2005. The second generation A4 moved from the B5 platform to the Group B6 platform of Volkswagen. The A4 retained the 1.6 lire power plant but upgraded the engines. This generation A4 was an innovator during its time. The A4 debuted the multitronic produced by LuK. The multitronic was a continuously variable transmission that replaced the old automatic transmission used by most front wheel drive vehicles at the time.     

The latest generation of the A4 debuted in late 2007 to present. This vehicle followed the Audi Modular Longitudinal Platform.
