Audi's A6 model is an executive car that is now in its third generation of existence. As the successor to the Audi 100, used Audi A6s are available in estate (Avant) and saloon versions. All generations of the car are available in front wheel drive, Torsen-based four wheel drive or Audi's amazing Quattro drive system.

The Audi A6 began production in 1994, with the first generation lasting through to 1997. Based on the Volkswagen Group C4 platform, the UK was the first country in Europe to receive the first generation of the Audi A6. However, the company ran out of stock before it reached mainland Europe.

Up until 1997, the Audi A6 came with a selection of engines, including a turbo diesel engine. A higher performance version of the Audi A6, called the Audi S6, featured a 4.2 litre V8 at 290 PS and 286 bhp. The S6 PLUS was a limited edition which included 240 kW (326 PS, 322 bhp) and was manufactured by Quattro GmbH.

In the years 2000 and 2001, the second generation of the Audi A6 was featured in the top 10 list in the Car and Driver magazine. Like its predecessor, the Audi A6 came with a variety of engine configurations.

You can distinguish secondhand A6s made after 2002 by the slight change in styling. They have revised headlights, a new grille design, exposed exhaust tips and other small changes.

Both used and nearly new Audi A6s (C6 series) sell themselves with their understated executive good looks combined with the Quattro four-wheel-drive system for outstanding performance. The three litre supercharged engine is also superb. Used Audi A6s also tend to hold their value.
