The first Audi A8 was released in 1994 to follow the Audi V8. The A8’s improvements from the V8 include an aluminum monocoque that lessened the vehicle’s overall weight and the launch of the Volkswagen Group D2. The Audi A8 could either be driven as a standard wheelbase or in the long-wheelbase, which is longer by 5 inches for better legroom in the rear. Three years later, the A8 could be driven either in front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive models. The front wheel drive models housed an efficient and enduring 2.8 litre V6 engine at 142 kW or a 3.7 litre V8 engine at 171.5 kW.

The luxury features showcased by this vehicle include a leather and wood trim, an improved Bose system for music and audio, 14-way heated seats, and even climate control within the interior. The second generation was introduced in 2002 to the European market. It continued to employ the Volkswagen Group D3 platform, but had a longer and larger space that could house up to five adults. Three years later, internal combustible engines were introduced to the second generation with the 3.2 litre fuel stratified injection replacing the 3.0 litre V6 engine. The current generation model, on the other hand, is founded on the Volkswagen Group MLB Platform.
