A History of the Audi TT
The Audi TT is a sports car produced under Volkswagen Group since 1998. The name is derived from NSU Motorenwerke AG’s auto racing history in the British Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy). The TT comes in a coupe and roadster body style, and has been built using the Volkswagen Group A platform.
The TT’s conception began in 1994. It was later introduced in 1995 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The award-winning interior has been attributed to a number of designers for Ford and Volkswagen. The resulting car has garnered awards from American magazines in 2000 and 2001.
In 1998, the TT Mk1 first generation, called the Typ 8N, was released as a coupe. The following year, a roadster version was produced. Around the turn of the century, a recall was made to improve its handling. A limited edition coupe built by Audi subsidiary quattro GmbH named Audi TT quattro Sport or Audi TT Club Sport was released in Europe in 2005.
The second generation concept was first introduced in 2005 at the Tokyo Motor Show. An S model, the first in Audi, soon followed in 2008 at the North American International Auto Show. With the collaboration of GmbH, the latest RS mode debuted at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.
