The BMW 3-Series debuted in 1975 selling more than 180,000 units in Europe alone. The 3-Series was developed in order to provide a better replacement for the BMW New Class. Albeit a difficult move, considering the fact that the New Class is regarded as a car that best embodies what BMW is all about, the company still manages to develop the rightful heir to the New Class throne. In the course of more than three decades, BMW launched five generations of the 3-Series. Apart from its sleek features, its fuel efficiency makes it a worthy competitor for contemporaries like the Mercedes-Benz C250 and the Volvo S60 T5.
