The E24 6 Series was the first of the BMW 6 Series sales. Today, if someone is looking for a secondhand BMW 6 Series, this classic car may catch their eye. The E24 was the original 6 Series car back in 1976. It came along to replace the E9 coupes by BMW, including the 2800CD, 3.0CS and 3.0CSi. The E24 improved on these cars by adding more safety features and a better engine. It could reach speeds of 100 km/h. The luxury version of the car, known as the L6, came along in 1987. It included a leather headliner and trim, as well as other luxury features. In 1983, BMW shifted focus to the M88/3. This car was built on the E24 chassis and could reach a top speed of 255 km/h.

Later, in 2003, the E63 and E64 came along. This car was a more sleek and modern addition to the 6 series that filled the gap created by the end of the 8 series by BMW. When the car first came out, it had a V8 engine. In 2004, the car downgraded to a six-cylinder engine, in order to make the vehicle more affordable. The E64 was a convertible model, the first of the 6 Series with such a feature. The most recent addition of the 6 Series is the F12/F13, which came out in 2011. These cars were first shown at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The car has two petrol engines and a diesel engine, as well as a convertible top. The transmission is available as either a 6 speed manual or 8 speed automatic.
