A small family car was finally produced in the autumn of 2004 by Citroën, a French automaker. The Citroën C4 has a similar engine with the Peugeot 308, and it was designed and created to become the successor of Citroën Xsara.

                The first generation of this car debuted in the year 2004 at the Geneva Motor Show, and which was designed by Jean Pierre Ploué and Donato Coco. It is characterized by a Lane Departure Warning Sytem, directional headlights, transparent glass roof, a translucent dashboard, and Electronic Stability Program among many others. This version of the C4 can be compared to the Honda CR-X and the Mazda 323C because of its similarity in the rear.

In 2008, the first generation C4 was reinvented, and in the year 2010, the second generation was finally introduced to the public. This was first seen in the Paris Salon of 2010, and the car is characterized by a bigger body with five doors. At the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, the C4 Aircross version was displayed, which was largely based on the Peugeot 4008 and the Mitsubishi ASX. The Citroën C4 also has a sedan version that was designed by the PSA Style Center released at the end of 2012.
