Getting to know the Fiat Punto
A supermini car from Italian automobile manufacturer Fiat, the Punto is a model that was first launched in 1993. Still in production today, the Fiat Punto now has three generations of car models in its lineup. At the time of the release of a 2012 model, 8.5 million units went into production.
With designs by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Punto was meant to replace the Fiat Uno. Available in two-door cabriolet and three-door or five-door hatchback versions, the Punto was recognized in 1995 as the European Car of the Year. Over the years, the Punto was released with entry-level, sporting, GT, convertible, and other versions, like the Punto 6Speed and Punto ED.
As for trim levels, the Fiat Punto was first released with four: S (Actual), SX (Active), ELX (Dynamic), and HLX (Emotion). At the highest level, the Punto comes with front and side airbags, remote locking, window bags, front power windows, four-function trip computer, electrical power steering, CD changer, CD player, fog lamps, and alloy rims. A facelift later on gave the Punto climate control (double zone heating), subwoofers (HGT only), an MP3 player, cruise control, and rear parking sensors as available options. To aid those mindful of their fuel mileage, the revised instrument panel shows instant consumption.
