The Ford S-Max was introduced to the world at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show and was voted European Car of the Year in 2007. The Ford S-Max made its Far East debut in China in 2010. In January 2011 the Ford S-Max won its fifth consecutive BusinessCar Magazine MPV of the Year award. In 2007 and 2008 the Ford S-Max won the British Insurance Car Security Award for Most Secure Car and 2008, 2009 and 2010 saw the Ford S-Max hat-trick win of the Auto Express Best MPV Award.
